My Favourite Winter Candles

25/01/2018

As I sit here in my pyjamas on a rainy, cold evening and try to think of ways not to order a Dominoes pizza (spoiler: saw an advert and caved), this blog post could not feel more appropriate. Winter is without a doubt the best time of year to get all cosy, read a book and burn a bloody marvellous candle. Whether you're having a long bath or just spending some QT with your best mate Bed, I've picked my three favourite candle recommendations to keep you company on your next big night in. Girls, it's about to get lit... (HAHAHA geddit?)

WINTER - WHITE COMPANY

NOTES: CINNAMON, CLOVE, ORANGE

First up, and 0 points for originality with this one - the White Company's Winter candle has to get a mention for it's classic approach to the season. Cinnamon, clove and orange are of course, very Christmassy notes but there's no rule that says they don't also translate into the remaining winter months too! As a massive fan of citrus and cinnamon-ey scents, this candle is one that I repurchase every year as I can't find an equivalent that kicks off as much scent and looks so good doing it.

ESPRESSO - BOULANGERIE

NOTES: COFFEE BEANS, ALMOND MILK, DARK CACAO, PATCHOULI

Okay, prepare for the first of many Harry Potter references here on Elisha-Mae.co.uk: You know the moment in Potions class in film six, when Hermione is describing how a love potion is created to smell like the things an individual finds most attractive? Well for me, I imagine mine would be something along the lines of books, log fires and - you guessed it - fresh coffee. So, what better candle to come upon in Anthropologie than this Espresso number; the answer to all my caffeine-addicted prayers! No surprises here, it's a strong coffee scent and is particularly lovely to burn on a lazy morning with the real thing... #weekendgoals

INCENSE & EMBERS - JO MALONE

NOTES: INCENSE, SILVER FIR, WHITE PEPPER, VETIVER, GOLDEN AMBER

This definitely is the most polarizing candle of the three, and certainly not one for the faint-hearted. Heady, smoky and deep, this Incense & Embers candle reminds me of a very sexy and shirtless man. Charlie Hunnam, perhaps? I'm well known amongst friends and family for having a nose for the more 'marmite' candles out there, but if like me you love something a little dark then seriously, go and give this a baby a try because it might just be my very, very favourite. Ssssssh though, don't tell the others...
