If you follow me on IG then you'll have already seen my new babies/birkies.
To me, they are the best thing since sliced bagels, which says a lot if you often read the 'breakfast' part of my intros. I know they aren't everyone's slice of pie but hey, I love an ugly shoe. Its one of many quirks of mine, as I'm sure you'll come to find out...
Speaking of finding things out, this week I got some hella good news.
Come a couple of days time, I will be interning for ITV's THIS MORNING as a part of the style team *pass out/happy dance/combination of the two*. Four weeks of clothes, London life and I even get to see the return of Holly Willoughbooby - I swoon.

Wish me luck lovelies!

STYLE SIGNATURE

19/08/2015

BREAKFAST: Toast

ON MY LIPS: M.A.C Stripdown / M.A.C Yash

CURRENT TWEET: 'Go, go, go!'

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: Finding my old Bob Marley CD!

Tailoring is - I feel - my signature. Classic and preferably on the comfy side, the style is easy peasy to dress up or down and I just love the minimalistic vibe of combining soft cuts with harsher options, such as this masculine waistcoat and grey trousers alongside my new bucket bag.
She's understated, beautiful and a total steal at £12.99 instore from H&M - my love for a grained leather finish is endless (faux in this case, of course). At this point of the month though I'm on a pretty strict budget and so a bargain couldn't of come at a better time, especially seeing as I recently gave a bunch of my knackered old bags the boot *waves bye bye*

Life of late has consisted of some very sad news for the family, hence this weekends absent post (apologies), but on a brighter note a new little Fiat 500 for yours truly sits on the drive outside! Names anybody? She's a girl and suggestions so far have been Florence, Fifi... all names starting with an F really. *SIDE NOTE* not compulsory.

Leave any names you may think of in the comments pretty please!

... And so, the denim obsession rages on. Sorry if things are getting a little same-ey around these parts but I just can't help it, the weakness I have is (ironically) only getting stronger! smh
Anyway with a generous gift card for TOPSHOP burning a hole in my back pocket - well, things were bought. Namely, this boy blue.
I've been on the hunt for the right denim shirt for a little while now, the criteria being:

1/ a light blue/bleach colour
2/ buttons > poppers
3/ an oversized fit
4/ and a quality feel

So, after a fair bit of searching here, there and everywhere, THIS GUY surfaced in my local store, offering up the whole lot for a fair price of £35.
Although perhaps a little pricey on first impressions, I then remembered a good shirt lasts a lifetime in my wardrobe (see my last ootd BLUE BLACK for evidence). Plus, I can wear it a dozen different ways and through all four seasons, but especially in the upcoming summer/autumn transition.

Speaking of, I can't wait to start dressing for a slightly colder season - mostly because I can go back to all-black outfits without feeling bad about it! Old habits die hard and all that.

Let me know if you'd like to see me style this piece in a ootd or something like that soon!

BLUE BLACK

08/08/2015

BREAKFAST: Waffles

ON MY LIPS: M.A.C Boldly Bare / M.A.C Pure Zen

CURRENT TWEET: 'Auto trader is weirdly addictive'

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: My new denim shirt <3

__________________________________________________________________

Bear witness to my oldest bit of clothing. This shirt from BERSHKA was bought several years ago and is easily one of my most worn pieces - its got that lovely, soft feel to it from many years of wear and washes, which is then enhanced by its now faded, blue/black colour and slouchy fit. All of these traits are what makes it a firm favourite in my ever-casual closet, as well as its versatility and easy wear. Basically, a well-loved shirt is eternal.

Speaking of, how I've been wearing my shirts more recently is with only two central buttons fastened and a pretty bralet peeking through. I'm often taken by a masculine fit and style of shirt, however by showing a little more skin and detailing, I feel it adds something a little bit sultry, like those gorgeous tumblr girls photographed in their boyfriends shirt for bed (maybe some people genuinely do that in real life, I however opt for the old boxers/big t-shirt combo... way hotter). Back to the ootd at hand though, this simple, all black look, set off by a pop of blue and silver accessories is the sort of thing that definitely resides in my off-duty outfit reserves. Today it was worn for a trip around the shops and an iced tea break, but of bloody course.

Whats the oldest item in your wardrobe?
Happy weekend you,

JULY FAVOURITES

05/08/2015

BREAKFAST: Pain au chocolat

ON MY LIPS: M.A.C Stripdown / M.A.C Blankety

CURRENT TWEET: 'Love my impromptu dinner dates w the girls'

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: A mention in my bestie's YouTube video...

July was a very good month - if you want to know the ins and outs of why, you can see here on my LIFE AS OF LATE post from a couple of weeks ago. Between busy days at work, a birthday and even a blogiversary though, I've managed to note down the things I've loved most this whole month, ranging from things shiny and new to reaffirmed old flames...

1/STYLE
monica vinader / riva ring
a white tee
denim

2/ BEAUTY
jo malone / wood sage and sea salt
braids
pro:voke / touch of silver brightening shampoo
m.a.c / yash
body shop / virgin mojito shower gel

3/ LIFE
rumour mill / rudimental
bagels

As you can see, I've enjoyed a casual approach to fashion, something that seems to happen every summer as I skip the faff in favour of flip flops, jeans and a tee. And - no surprise - my MONICA VINADER ring comes up trumps as it has not once left my side, y'know literally.

In the beauty books, I'm sad to say my favourite ever perfume is down to its last droplets :'(. WOOD SAGE AND SEA SALT by Jo Malone is both masculine and fresh, making it my ultimate day scent all year round, but especially in spring/summer. Between that, my lovely MOJITO shower gel, and blonder hair thanks to my PURPLE SHAMPOO - it's fair to say I've fully embraced the sunny weather in my beauty routine. Braids and a NUDE LIP have also been firm favourites, sure to last the whole year long.

Lastly, bagels with anything and everything on have been my first choice for breakfast/lunch, preferably whilst listening to RUMOUR MILL on repeat, my favourite song by far all month long.

Happy hump day folks

HOW TO / TAILOR-MAKE THE PERFECT WARDROBE

01/08/2015

BREAKFAST: Bagel

ON MY LIPS: M.A.C Boldly Bare

CURRENT TWEET: 'Gone Girl - perfect Friday night in'

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: Getting into bed all squeaky clean

__________________________________________________________________

The other morning I decided to have a little clear-out, being that I'm 99% sure I'm a Libra trapped in a Cancerian's body and organising is one of my favourite hobbies... no, really. Anyway, as I was making donate/dump piles I decided why not walk you through my ethos to the ideal wardrobe, to ensure every item serves its purpose, makes sense and stays true to my personal style.

1/ evolve
If you're anything like me then a little weekly spend is never far around the corner. With the regular additions I make to my collection of clothes though, I also try to constantly consider the items withstanding in my wardrobe. Small and regular, or even just seasonal clear-outs are a really good way to free up my hangers, clean up the clutter and make sense of what it is I'm truly missing in my stash of stuff. That way, I'm a little less likely to over-buy or over-budget on clothes.

2/ store
A parka made handy in the midst of summer is, put plainly, a waste (even if its a rainy, UK one). By storing away my winter items in the warmer months and vice versa, I can make the most of my rail space, saving it for those things I'll actually get some wear from right now.

3/ stick to staples
Easier said than done when you work in retail *face palm* but as a basic rule, I try not to get too sucked into fleeting trends. I've found its been more rewarding to determine my own style and stay true to that aesthetic. How I've managed to hone in on my personal fashion preferences is by thinking of three words to describe it, idea courtesy of LAUREN CONRAD, then using it as a form of criteria for all future pieces.

My magic three? neutral, minimal, androgynous.
By setting up these guidelines my clothes have become wholly interchangeable plus they manage to kerb my impulse buying, if only ever so slightly.

4/ invest
I like to try and spend money where it'll matter the most. For me, this applies to jackets or coats and also shoes, as these are things I wear everyday, without fail and therefore just about earn back every pretty penny I spent on them. Things like bags, jeans and jewellery however are also worth investing in...

5/ organise
Lastly, being that I'm slightly obsessive and my clothes are basically the puppies I've never had, I try to keep them looking as Pinterest-worthy as possible. For me, colour coding is a must but if you prefer, organising by items such as dresses, jumpers etc., injects just a little more calm into the dreaded morning rush.

And there we go: a handful of simple steps so I know where to save, where to splurge and where to downright stop, put all the shit in my arms down and leave the store. Of course, its a continuing case of trial and error as my tastes change but so far, so good!

What three words would you use to describe your style?
Happy weekend,

XELISHA-MAE
